Terms of Service

Last updated: 4 October 2026

1. Acceptance

By creating an account or using BetterCook (the "App"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the App.

2. What the App is

BetterCook is an instructional cooking app. It teaches cooking technique through structured pathways: sequences of recipes, grouped into skill-building steps, each with dietary variants. We publish recipes and technique guidance. We do not sell, prepare, or deliver food, and nothing in the App is personalised medical, dietary, or nutritional advice.

Dietary tags (vegetarian, vegan, and similar) are a convenience for spotting which recipes may suit you; they are not a guarantee that any dish is safe for you to eat. The App does not screen recipes for allergens or warn you about them, see Section 6.

3. Accounts

You need an account to use the App, either email and password, Sign in with Apple, or Sign in with Google. You agree to:

You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete Account; see our Privacy Policy for exactly what that removes.

4. Content is guidance, not a guarantee

Recipe outcomes vary with your ingredients, equipment, technique, and altitude, among other things. We make no warranty that any recipe will produce a specific result, and "results may vary" applies to every recipe in the App. Timing estimates and technique tips are our best general guidance, not a promise for your specific kitchen.

5. Your safety in the kitchen

Cooking involves real risks: sharp knives, hot surfaces, open flames, boiling liquids, and hot oil. By using this App, you acknowledge that cooking carries inherent risks of injury, and you assume those risks. We are not liable for any injury, burn, cut, or property damage arising from your use of any recipe, technique, or instruction in the App. If you are cooking with or supervising a child, you are responsible for appropriate supervision, especially during any knife-skills or heat-control content, which this App teaches directly.

6. Allergens and food safety

The following apply in full and are not just a formality, see Section 8's incorporation note:

7. No medical or nutrition advice

Nothing in the App constitutes medical, dietary, or nutritional advice. We do not currently display nutrition figures (calories, macros, or similar); if we add them in the future, they will be estimates for informational purposes only. Consult a qualified professional before making dietary changes, especially if you have an allergy, intolerance, or medical condition.

8. How Section 6 relates to the in-app disclaimers

The points in Section 6 are the same substantive commitments shown to you as individual disclaimer cards during onboarding and in Settings → Legal & Safety. These Terms and those cards are meant to say the same thing in two places, not two different things; if you ever see them diverge, the discrepancy should be fixed, not relied upon.

9. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

10. Content and intellectual property

Recipe steps and ingredient lists, as functional lists of instructions, are not something we claim exclusive ownership over in isolation. What we do own: our written descriptions, technique tips, headnotes, and the App's photography, design, and branding, along with the App as a curated collection (a "compilation"). You may use recipes for your own personal cooking; you may not republish our written content, images, or catalogue structure elsewhere without permission.

Recipe and pathway photography is either licensed stock imagery or created for us. You may not copy, redistribute or resell images from the App.

Content in the App (recipes and pathways) may change or be removed at any time without notice.

Photos and captions you share. When you share a plate photo, a caption, a display name or a profile photo, you keep ownership of it and you give BetterCook a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host it and show it in the App to other cooks for as long as it is shared. You promise that you took the photo or have the right to share it, and that it follows the community rules below. Shared plates, captions and names are visible to other signed-in cooks.

Community rules. We have no tolerance for objectionable content. Do not share anything abusive, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit, violent or illegal, and no spam, impersonation or other people's private information. You can report a plate, or a person's name or profile photo, from the plate's screen, and you can block anyone so you no longer see their plates. A reported plate is hidden while we review it. We aim to review every report within 24 hours, we remove content that breaks these rules, and we may remove the account of anyone who posts it. You can also write to hello@bettercook.app.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by England and Wales law, BetterCook is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the App, including but not limited to injury, illness, allergic reaction, or property damage. Our total liability for any claim relating to the App is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose (currently zero, as the App has no paid features).

12. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms. You may stop using the App and delete your account at any time.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of England and Wales.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make a material change, we will notify you in the App before it takes effect. Continued use after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
